Assistant Professor: Environmental Science and Management The Environmental Science and Management (ESM) Program at Portland State University (PSU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Management, with specialization in aquatic ecology/limnology. Expertise in food webs, toxic algae, invasive species, quantitative methods, or modeling is preferred. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong record of extramural funding in their area of specialization. Post-doctoral experience is desirable. The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively and across disciplines within the School of Environment (http://www.pdx.edu/environment/research-groups) to pursue an active program of scholarly research, publication, and external grant funding. Candidates must possess a PhD degree and be committed to both environmental research and teaching general science through graduate level courses in environmental science. Please distribute this announcement for the URGWOM Project Manager position at the Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District. I am also pleased to report that the vacancy announcement for a Project Manager position (GS-0801-12, GS-0810-12, GS-1315-12) in Reservoir Control Branch, Operations Division, has hit the streets as well. This vacancy announcement (both merit and DEU) will close on Monday, 6 Dec 2010, and is posted on USA jobs (WTKC10SH647680 (Status) or WTKC10SH647680D (Public)) for applicants to self nominate for the position. The announcement is interdisciplinary with listings under Project Manager, Civil Engineer and Hydrologist. We are seeking a full-time PM to provide expert project management for water resources projects including the continued research and development of the Upper Rio Grande Water Operations Models and other model development in support of water operations and forecasting. Full-year career appointment anticipated within one to two years of hire date based upon performance and funding. On-the-job training and concurrent enrollment in professional/educational courses possible, depending on experience and qualifications. Stream survey to include aquatic (in-channel and lake) habitat; fish and aquatic organisms; stream ecology; and, full participation with Ecology Programs Division wetland and riparian assessment teams. Baseline analysis, condition assessment, restoration programs and collaboration on stream and habitat quality. Identify, collect and analyze fish, aquatic plants, insects and other species.

This is an ongoing career-conditional appointment based upon performance and funding review cycles. As a key part of the Ecology Programs Division, the Wildlife and Habitat Conservation Department directs all habitat- and species-based inventory, site assessment, and restoration efforts to assure the ecological sustainability of all wildlife within their natural environment. The Wildlife Ecology Specialist will contribute to ongoing and developing wildlife programs, conduct health and population assessments for key wildlife species, as well as participate in biodiversity planning and management within the Ecology Programs Division.

Through its National Fish Passage Program the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uses a voluntary, non-regulatory approach to remove and bypass barriers. The program provides technical assistance and funding to assist others in restoring fish passage. Proposals should keep in mind the program goal to restore native fish and other aquatic species to self-sustaining levels by reconnecting habitat that has been fragmented by barriers. All projects must be located in New Mexico.
