The Middle Rio Grande Endangered Species Collaborative Program MRGESCP Fiscal Year 2008-2009 Annual Report Now Available

The Middle Rio Grande Endangered Species Collaborative Program (MRGESCP) Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 and FY2009 Annual Report provides information on the MRGESCP’s finances and accomplishments for the timeframe from October 2007 to September 2009.
Congress appropriated $16.0 million in FY2008 and $12.8 million in FY2009 for MRGESCP activities. These Federal appropriations were supplemented by non-federal MRGESCP signatories in the form of financial contributions and in-kind services. Congressional appropriations provided funding for activities that meet Biological Opinion requirements or address long-term recovery needs. This report describes the MRGESCP, summarizes the MRGESCP expenditures and highlights accomplishments using funds allocated during FY2008 and FY2009.

As you know, the MRGESCP consists of governmental entities, Indian Tribes and Pueblos, and nongovernmental organizations, and focuses on improving the status of the listed endangered species in the Middle Rio Grande region. The MRGESCP was established in April 2002 under a Memorandum of Understanding, and continued through a Memorandum of Agreement signed May 15, 2008. Throughout FY2008 and FY2009, the MRGESCP continued to improve habitat, support scientific analysis, and promote recovery of the listed species, specifically, the Rio Grande silvery minnow and the Southwestern willow flycatcher.

The MRGESCP is actively involved in long-term planning towards a goal of becoming a recovery program through the implementation of a revised Long Term Plan and an Adaptive Management Program.
