The theme for this year's Summit is "Re- energize Community Fire Response". This topic will be addressed throughout the two-and-a-half day Summit which features federal, state, and local partners with special insight on fire adapted communities and building community capacity. The Summit also provides an opportunity for New Mexico's local government leaders, fire and emergency responders, businesses, and community members to discuss statewide efforts to reduce the risk of wildfire and what each player's role is in mitigating risk of forest fires in the wildland urban interface.
Advance registration is $65.00 until March 23rd. Onsite registration is $85.00. A limited number of scholarships are available for non-federally employed individuals who wish to attend the WUI Summit. Financial assistance is offered through the Northern Arizona University's Southwest Fire Consortium. There are several area hotels to choose from and hotel reservations should be made by contacting them directly. Many have agreed to honor a government per diem rate and participants should identify that they are attending the "WUI" Summit.
The collaborative event is hosted by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, New Mexico State Land Office, New Mexico State Forestry, Forest Stewards Guild, Northern Arizona University- Southwest Fire Consortium, Grant County, and New Mexico Association of Counties.
