Water-Energy Connection
It takes water to make electricity, and it takes electricity to pump, treat and deliver water to our homes, schools and businesses. Most electricity in New Mexico is produced using processes that require water for cooling and for steam that turns the turbines, and that water is pumped from underground aquifers. Water is also used in oil and gas production. So when we conserve energy, we are conserving water too.
