Georeferencing Technician   

University of New Mexico, Museum of Southwestern Biology, Division of Fishes 

The UNM Museum of Southwestern Biology Division of Fishes seeks a full time Georeferencing Technician with expertise in georeferencing natural history collections data. The selected candidate will be responsible for georeferencing data assigned to him/her from various geographic regions within the FishNet2 network. A B.S. or B.A. degree in biology, geography, museum studies, biodiversity informatics or closely related field is required. The successful candidate will be required to exhibit and demonstrate computer literacy and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. The candidate must be able to communicate in an effective and professional manner.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

OR

Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 4 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

OR

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.   

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Working knowledge of georeferencing standards and protocols; Experience georeferencing using GEOLocate in a collaborative environment; Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Master of Science (MS) degree in biology, geography, museum studies, biodiversity informatics or closely-related field
