The Plug and Spread treatment is a novel approach to restore grasslands by utilizing seasonal runoff that increases surface hydrologic connectivity disrupted by human activies on the landscape.

Reclamation Announces $1.4 Million for Applied Science Projects to Support Desert and Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperatives
Reclamation announces 12 projects will receive a total of $1.4 million to develop applied science tools in support of the Desert and Southern Rockies Landscape Conservation Cooperatives. Through cost-share agreements, this funding will be used to support $3.13 million for the development of resource management tools to assist LCC stakeholders.

New approaches to landscape restoration are needed to cope with these disturbances. The 2016 Restoring the West Conference offered presentations by experts in climate science, landscape restoration, and forest ecology on techniques for this uncertain future, and gave examples where these techniques are working.
