The deadline for abstracts forthe 2010 New Mexico Water Research Symposium­­­: Resource Interdependence has been extended to July 6, 2010 at noon.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is making approximately $2 million available in 2011 to reduce pollution at the local level through the Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program. CARE is a community-based program that works with county and local governments, tribes, non-profit organizations and universities to help the public understand and reduce toxic risks from numerous sources. The 2011 Collaborative Forest Restoration Program - Request for Applications is now posted online at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/r3/cfrp. Applications are due February 28, 2011.

The purpose of the 3rd biennial research conference is to bring tamarisk, Russian olive and other riparian related invasive plant and restoration researchers together at a single venue to share their results with other scientists and western land managers so that future management efforts can be guided by state-of-the-science. This conference will promote dialogue between researchers and land managers to identify future research needs for the development of effective policy and management decisions.

The New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department (EMNRD), Forestry Division (Division) is issuing a Request for Applications for the implementation of the 2012 Western Wildland Urban Interface Grant program that will reduce the fire threat to New Mexico’s communities. The Division is soliciting Applications from counties, municipalities, soil and water conservation districts, and tribes that are surrounded by hazardous forest fuels, which pose a threat in the event of a wildland fire.

The pre-conference workshop will include field visits to advanced flood control/ green infrastructure sites, including small scale flood control projects by Bernalillo County, as well as large scale projects completed by SSCAFCA. Lead engineers and project managers will discuss the design of the projects, problems experienced during construction, and the impact these features have had on the river.
