Public Notice: 2015-2016 Water Quality Monitoring Pre-Survey Meetings - Canadian and Dry Cimarron Watersheds

The New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) Surface Water Quality Bureau (SWQB) is seeking public input on planning for a surface water quality study of the Canadian and Dry Cimarron watersheds.

Two public meetings will be held to discuss the draft monitoring plan and will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide input. New Mexico Environment Department’s Surface Water Quality Bureau is seeking the opinion of area residents, governmental agencies, and other concerned parties on the study design and any potential areas of concern that may not be addressed in the draft study plan. This survey will include river and lake locations along the Canadian River, Cimarron River, Mora River, Ponil Creek, Sapello River, Ocate Creek, Rayado Creek, Ute Creek, Raton Creek, Vermejo River, VanBremmer Creek, Dry Cimarron River, Pajarito Creek, Corrumpa Creek, Seneca Creek, and perennial tributaries to these streams. The results of the survey will be used to determine water quality status, track water quality improvements, and identify impaired waterbodies.

The first meeting will be held in Raton at the City Council Chambers at 224 Savage Ave. on Thursday March 5th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The second meeting will be held in Tucumcari at the Mesalands Community College, Building A – Room A233, on March 10th from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Please see the attached notice and event flyer for additional information.

Thank you,

Scott Murray
