Conservation Seedlings Still Available to New Mexico Landowners
Santa Fe, NM – Thousands of trees are still available to New Mexico landowners for spring planting through New Mexico State Forestry’s Conservation Seedling Program, but time is running out to purchase them.
More than 50,000 seedlings are available to landowners who own at least one acre of land in New Mexico and agree to use the trees for conservation purposes. These include erosion control, wildlife habitat, reforestation, riparian restoration, windbreak establishment, tree plantations and other conservation needs. Seedling sales will end April 21, 2017.
Available tree and shrub species include: Arizona cypress, Douglas-fir, Austrian pine, aspen, native plum, Rocky Mountain juniper, Manchurian apricot, golden currant, as well as many others.
Bare root seedlings are sold in bundles of 25, with a minimum order of 50 plants for $62. Small container seedlings are sold in 10-cubic-inch containers, in minimum lots of 49 of the same species for $80.
Secure online ordering is also available at www.nmforestry.com. Payment with Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card is accepted. Mail-in application forms may also be downloaded from the website and checks are accepted with mail-in order forms. Anyone who experiences problems downloading the application form may contact the New Mexico Forestry Division at (505) 476-3325 and have it sent by mail. Three methods of delivery are available for a $5 handling fee: UPS (last day to order online for UPS shipping is April 13th), pick up in Santa Fe, or pick up at designated locations throughout New Mexico. All proceeds are re-invested into the program.
