Western Waters Digital Library
WWDL provides free public access to digital collections of significant primary and secondary resources on water in the western United States. These collections have been made available by research libraries belonging to the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) and other academic library partners. The WWDL is a valuable resource for researchers, policy makers, scholars, Native American tribes, professionals working in various fields, and others interested in contemporary and historic water issues.

Southwest Fire Science Consortium Resources
Newsletters and other resources created by the SW Fire Science Consortium. The consortium provides opportunities for managers, scientists, and policy makers to interact and share science in ways that can effectively move new information to management practices. We seek to link the academic community and the management community in educating future fire professionals with up-to-date science as well as practical experience. Cumulative Watershed Effects of Fuel Management in the Western United States
Fire suppression in the last century has resulted in forests with excessive amounts of biomass, leading to more severe wildfires, covering greater areas, requiring more resources for suppression and mitigation, and causing increased onsite and offsite damage to forests and watersheds. Forest managers are now attempting to reduce this accumulated biomass by thinning, prescribed fire, and other management activities. These activities will impact watershed health, particularly as larger areas are treated and treatment activities become more widespread in space and in time. Management needs, laws, social pressures, and legal findings have underscored a need to synthesize what we know about the cumulative watershed effects of fuel management activities. In this 2010 synthesis by the Rocky Mountain Research Station, 14 chapters were defined covering fire and forests, machinery, erosion processes, water yield and quality, soil and riparian impacts, aquatic and landscape effects, and predictive tools and procedures. These chapters provide an overview of our current understanding of the cumulative watershed effects of fuel management in the western United States.

Lite Geology
Lite Geology was started in the fall of 1992 as a quarterly publication geared at earth science teachers in New Mexico. NMBGMR continues to publish Lite Geology on an intermittent basis. Lite Geology is written in a format that is less technical than other publications of the bureau. Included with the main articles are cartoons, puzzles, poetry, and other features designed to make learning fun. We also include information about teachers' resources, and upcoming geological and scientific events.

Addressing Climate Change in Long-Term Water Resources Planning and Management: User Needs for Improving Tools and Information
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation have published a report, "Addressing Climate Change in Long-Term Water Resources Planning and Management: User Needs for Improving Tools and Information," that identifies the needs of local, state, and federal water management agencies for climate change information and tools to support long-term planning. The report seeks to focus research and technology efforts to address information and tools needed for longer-term water resources planning and management. It found there were gaps in the information and tools to help water managers in how to use climate change information to make decisions, how to assess the responses of natural systems to climate change, and how to communicate the results and uncertainties of climate change assessments to decision-makers.

Small glaciers gone in 2100
According to a new study published in Nature Geoscience half of the world's smaller glaciers will disappear during this century. The study, in Nature Geoscience, found that half of the world's smallest glaciers, with a surface area less than 5 square kilometres, will disappear entirely, with possible implications for communities dependent on them for water supplies.
