The purpose of the Underground Injection Control ("UIC") and Industrial Waste Team Leader supervisory position in the Pollution Prevention Section is to ensure consistency and timely agency action regarding industrial waste related discharge permits issued pursuant to 20.6.2 NMAC and to administer the federal UIC grant. Regulated facilities include power plants, hydrocarbon landfarms, national labs, vehicle wash facilities, and manufacturing plants. The position provides leadership by identifying, prioritizing and implementing ways to improve program effectiveness in preventing and abating ground water contamination from industrial waste discharges, which may include developing policies, guidelines, templates, and regulations.  The position directly supervises 3-4 technical and supervisory staff, manages a limited caseload of permits, and guides section staff in application review, permit drafting, inspections, compliance evaluations, and communications with permittees and the public. Administration of the federal UIC grant requires tracking, reporting, and interagency coordination.

 

Salary:

Pay band 80, with salary depending on qualifications and experience. The midpoint salary is $29.50 per hour.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science in Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Chemistry or Environmental Science. 

Experience: Five years of experience in water quality regulatory programs, ground water investigations and remediation and/or hazardous waste management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine years may substitute for the required education and experience.
